Genes with silly names should stay

Discussion paper about the prevalence of whimsy and wit in gene naming. I think the whimsy should stay, and so do these authors. After all, pioneers in any given namespace have always done this: look at the names of towns in North America, for example (New York, Truth Or Consequences, etc), or the colours of Crayola crayons.
Arresting fact: "North American cities, for instance, often share a corpus of conserved street names". What kind of Land Of The Free is that?! You've got the right to bear arms but not to name streets - how bizarre. Reminds me of the now-abolished strictures on children's names in France.
